Scope and Contents
An index card was found among the items in this collection that mentions a document that shows payment to Henry Wynkoop for service as a delegate ot the 2nd Continental Congress. That document has not been found in the collections housed at the Northampton Township Archive. It has been decided that the information on the card be listed here.
"Wynkoop Payment for Service in Continental Congress
This document, a gift to the NTHS by Gerardus Wynkoop II, is for payment of 50 pounds to Henry Wynkoop for service as a delegate to the 2nd Continental Congress. Dated March 17, 1781, it is signed by Joseph Reed, President of the Pennsylvania Supreme Executive COuncil (Govenor of the State, in effect), and a former aide-de-camp to Gen. Washington, and David Rittenhouse, a distiguished patriot in his own right, but better remembered for his scientific achievements. Wynkoop signed and dated the receipt, "PM March 27." "

From the Collection: 61 Linear Feet (Many items are not housed in boxes - they are displayed on the shelves in the collection room. All other items are housed in boxes. Box 30 is oversized.) : Many are in good condition, with a few that need careful handling. There are a few heavy items and glass objects so care should be taken with them. Many of the clothes are in good condition but due to their age, they should be handled gently.
